Check Engine / Malfunction Indicator

Your vehicle's onboard computer has detected a fault in the engine, transmission, or emission system. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored — it must be read with an OBD-II scanner to know the exact cause.

1. 1Check if the gas cap is loose — tighten it and see if the light clears after a few drive cycles
2. 2Use an OBD-II scanner or MyOBDCode to read the stored code
3. 3If the light is flashing, pull over safely — a flashing check engine light means an active misfire that can damage your catalytic converter
4. 4Schedule a mechanic visit within 1–2 weeks for a steady (non-flashing) light
